Construction of kindergarten and bridges

Construction of the first five bridges in Luong Tam was completed in June, 2009.

There has been a delay with the completion of the kindergarten due to three weeks of heavy rainstorms and flooding. We hope the kindergarten will be ready for the handover ceremony on August 8th.

This lot of land designated for the kindergarten was cleared in March 2009, during Laura's visit to the village. It was sad to see all the fruit trees being cut down. But everyone felt that a kindergarten was badly needed. There has been a severe shortage of kindergartens in the Mekong Delta. In many of the provinces, classes for children ages 3,4, and 5 are held at elementary school buildings, at local cultural centers, at Buddhist temples, at cemeteries, at public parks, in private homes... Each province needs between 300 and 400 kindergarten classes. Unfortunately, the government does not have any concrete plan to solve the dilemma.
